What do I need to record multiple voice and instruments to my computer?

It need not be a recording of presentation quality. Thus desent for learning skills. My computer has a 2.8GHz processor, 512 megs of ram and a 400GB hard drive. What hardware do I need, and what is the most simplest and best software to record multiple tracks and loop tracks do? I am not an engineer or computer. Thank you very much for any advice you can offer.
