Nobody's good advice for sound insulation?
My roommates and I are renting an apartment in a very old building. My room was an add-on, and the wall behind my bed does not reach the ceiling (about 7 stops "from the ceiling). Is there something I could do to get well sounds in my room are not as strong in the other room, and so I have a little more privacy? I thought about sticking a table top, but still work? I would appreciate any advice.
Since you are renting you may want to be careful about dealing with this problem. I will not do anything that could cause damage and prevent deposit money back. So consider going to your local home improvement and puchasing a sheet of 4'x8 'of rigid foam insulation. Take it home and carefully measure the distance between the ceiling and the top of the existing wall. Mark and cut enough strips of rigid foam to fill the void at the top of the wall. Depending on your taste, you can cover the filling of rigid insulation with white paper and craft paint to match the wall or perhaps cover it with contact paper or fabric to make a fun exciting frontier in the top of the wall. Remember, when you prepare to leave the apartment may have to remove the installation. One more thing to think about ... see if the room has a ventilation duct to provide heat or cold. If your room was a complement that there may have provided a heating or cooling of the room. So the gap at the top of the wall can serve the purpose of allowing air to circulate. If that's the case, you may have to choose between private or heat! Finally, be careful not to block the sprinkler heads, fire protection, if the is in the building. Good luck with your project.
